Infrastructure Engineer II

Overview

In this role, you will provide technical leadership for the z/OS mainframe platform, driving reliability and modernization to support secure, resilient services. You will collaborate with cross-functional infrastructure teams to solve complex issues and align solutions with business needs. Responsibilities

• Provide technical engineering and operational support for the Mainframe Services z/OS platform, including OS support and data centre capabilities
• Design, develop, and implement systems engineering solutions with limited oversight
• Serve as a seasoned technical resource and give direction on projects without direct reports
• Perform problem determination and root-cause analysis for z/OS issues
• Install, configure, test, and support z/OS and related system software
• Provide system-level support ensuring stability, availability, and recoverability
• Evaluate existing systems and recommend practical solutions
• Identify opportunities to optimize mainframe resources and performance
• Research and plan hardware and software changes with OS interfaces and dependencies
• Collaborate with networking, storage, security, and other teams for reliable integration
• Create and maintain system configuration, operational and troubleshooting documentation
• Assess emerging technologies and align with business and platform requirements

Key requirements

• Demonstrated knowledge of IBM z/OS OS, architecture, processing logic, and RACF security
• Deep experience supporting IBM z/OS in large-scale environments
• Ability to develop tools, standards, and methodologies for enterprise z/OS management
• Advanced problem-determination and root-cause analysis skills
• Extensive knowledge of IBM zEnterprise hardware and data centre facilities
• Experience installing and servicing z/OS using z/OSMF and SMP/E
• Experience with IBM IBMLINK and electronic support resources
• Subject-matter expertise in mainframe systems programming and technical leadership
• Experience supporting z/OS 3.1 environments with JES2
• Proficiency with IPCS, RMF, MICS, SMF, Debug Tool, SLIP, Splunk
• Programming experience with REXX and IBM High Level Assembler
• RACF administration and security support experience
• Experience defining mainframe hardware configurations using HCD
