About the business
Our client is a London-based property management company responsible for a portfolio of residential and commercial property, including mixed-use assets. Its in-house legal team handles the property and dispute matters arising across the portfolio, working closely with the property management, finance and asset management functions.
The role
You will manage a caseload of landlord-side property disputes, from the pre-action stage through to tribunal and court hearings, and advise the wider business on dispute risk. You will run matters independently, instructing external solicitors and counsel where needed and acting as their main point of contact.
What you will do
- Manage a varied caseload of residential and commercial landlord and tenant disputes on behalf of the landlord, including service charge recovery, dilapidations, forfeiture and breach of lease claims.
- Run First-tier Tribunal (Property Chamber) and Upper Tribunal matters independently.
- Manage the pre-action process for rent and service charge arrears, including preparing and serving formal demands.
- Take matters from initial advice through to negotiated settlement, ADR or hearing.
- Draft and review statements of case, witness statements, correspondence and settlement agreements.
- Instruct and manage external solicitors and counsel, acting as the main point of contact on matters where they are engaged.
- Give practical, commercial advice to internal teams on disputes and enforcement.
- Identify trends across disputes and contribute to risk management and process improvements.
- Support on wider residential and commercial property matters as required.
About you
- A qualified solicitor with at least five years’ experience in property litigation.
- Substantial experience of landlord and tenant disputes, service charge litigation and lease enforcement.
- Experience of court and tribunal proceedings, ADR and settlement negotiations.
- Able to run your own caseload, prioritise competing deadlines and make commercial decisions independently.
- Good drafting, negotiation and advocacy skills, and comfortable representing the business directly.
- Comfortable handling contentious tenant relationships and enforcement action.
- Able to work collaboratively with property management, finance and asset management colleagues, and to communicate clearly with internal stakeholders and external advisers.
