Mechanical Team Leader

Overview

In this role you will lead the Mechanical Engineering design team within our defence-focused organisation, guiding development from concept to production and ensuring robust plans, reviews and governance. You will manage technical risk, align projects with budgets, and coordinate resources across the group to deliver fit-for-purpose mechanical solutions. Your work enables advanced, technology-led systems that protect and enable mission success. This is a hands-on leadership role in a high-stakes, collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and present Mechanical Development Plans and Design Scheme Data Packs for internal and customer reviews
• Peer-check work including designs, design data, hand calculations and technical reports
• Chair design review panels at internal and project levels, including customer-facing contexts
• Prepare project plans, direct team implementation, and monitor progress and spend against budgets
• Devise and maintain resource plans and allocate Mechanical Engineering resources
• Prepare estimates to support new bids and assist in proposals
• Coordinate and conduct Performance and Development Reviews, and contribute to Salary Reviews
• Ensure adherence to departmental and company policies and procedures across team and project groups

Key requirements

• Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
• Proven track record of product development from concept to production
• Previous team leading and/or project management experience
• Competence with CAD tools to prepare design models (CREO preferred) and experience with TeamCenter, DOORs, and JIRA advantageous
• Experience in avionic systems, optical displays, mechatronics, electronics packaging, composites, additive manufacturing and related test/measurement environments
