Lead Design Engineer / Design Manager

Overview

In this hands-on leadership role you own design quality and standards while guiding a small design team. You will be involved from enquiry through to installation, maintaining technical influence and responsibility across projects. This position supports the delivery of bespoke engineered solutions in a specialist engineering environment, offering long-term stability and opportunities to develop as the design function grows. You will shape processes, mentor staff, and drive continuous improvement within the design team.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a small design team while managing your own design workload
• Produce and check GA, fabrication and installation drawings, plus BOMs
• Support projects from enquiry through to installation, ensuring designs are accurate and buildable

Key requirements

• Proven background in mechanical/manufacturing design
• Strong SolidWorks experience (parts, assemblies and drawings)
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD is beneficial
• Comfortable leading/mentoring others
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
