Associate Director – Bridge Engineering

Overview

As Associate Director, lead senior technical and project delivery across bridge engineering within Stantec’s UK team. You’ll shape complex designs, assessments and construction solutions while strengthening client relationships and pursuing new opportunities. You’ll mentor engineers, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, and contribute to the growth of the bridge engineering capability. This role combines technical leadership with business development to deliver sustainable infrastructure that connects communities.

Responsibilities

• Provide senior technical leadership across bridge design, assessment and inspection projects
• Lead delivery of complex bridge commissions from feasibility through construction
• Review and assure technical outputs (calculations, drawings, specs, reports)
• Act as senior technical advisor to clients and project teams
• Build and manage client relationships and understand future needs
• Identify opportunities, contribute to bids, proposals and fee estimates
• Support business development strategies for the bridge team
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams across UK and international offices
• Contribute to standards, capability and best practice within the structures business
• Mentor engineers and support professional development and progression
• Support recruitment and resource planning to grow team capability
• Represent Stantec at industry events and client meetings

Key requirements

• Significant experience in bridge engineering, including design, assessment and delivery of complex structures
• Chartered status with ICE or IStructE
• Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, or related discipline
• Strong knowledge of design standards, codes and industry guidance
• Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and complex projects
• Strong commercial awareness and understanding of project financial performance, resources and programmes
• Proven experience developing and maintaining client relationships
• Experience identifying opportunities and contributing to bids and proposals
• Excellent communication and influencing skills with clients, senior stakeholders and technical teams
• Experience mentoring and developing engineers and supporting professional development
• Ability to provide clear technical direction while promoting collaboration and new ideas
• Strategic mindset with interest in longer-term growth of the business
