Pre-Construction Senior Engineer

Overview

In this role you will support the Pre-Construction Engineering Manager to establish a robust target cost, risk register, and outline delivery plan before site work starts. You will manage client-facing activities to align tender designs with client requirements and transition smoothly into project delivery. You will apply CDM 2015 and safety-in-design principles as Principal Designer, coordinating with design consultants. The role involves ensuring comprehensive pre-construction design deliverables, BIM planning, and change management across regional projects. This is a hands-on opportunity to shape early-stage design and delivery in a leading contractor’s environment.

Responsibilities

• Draft and secure approval for robust Engineering Service Enquiry and pre-con design deliverables
• Coordinate tender designs with client requirements to ensure smooth handover to delivery teams
• Apply CDM 2015 and safety-in-design as Principal Designer with support from the design consultant
• Conduct PCI gap analysis at pre-con stage to ensure information availability
• Coordinate operational input for pre-con activities (planning, programme, constructability)
• Ensure design considers cost, quality, buildability, and safety, with regulatory, environmental and sustainability compliance
• Oversee design management plans and Principal Designer toolkit development and handover
• Produce and maintain Design Management Plan (DMP), BIM execution plan, and design scope (ESE)
• Manage change control to keep the team ahead of changes with timely decisions
• Ensure involvement of key functions (H&S, Quality, Environmental, etc) in design processes
• Align with Quality, Safety and Environmental Policies and Targets

Key requirements

• HND/HNC in related Engineering discipline (BEng/MEng preferred)
