Contentious Construction Senior Associate

Overview

In this role you join Shoosmiths’ growing construction team to handle non-contentious construction work on major development, regeneration, infrastructure and energy projects. You’ll collaborate with cross‑practice teams to provide commercially focused advice and support from inception to completion. Expect early responsibility, direct client exposure, and opportunities to shape high‑profile projects. The role combines technical drafting with client service in a supportive, collaborative culture.

Responsibilities

• Advise on non-contentious construction matters across development, investment and infrastructure projects
• Draft and negotiate JCT, NEC, bespoke contracts and related documents
• Advise on consultant appointments, warranties, bonds and third-party rights
• Support procurement strategies, risk allocation and project delivery issues
• Collaborate with Real Estate and Infrastructure teams to provide seamless advice
• Contribute to client relationship management and business development initiatives

Key requirements

• Qualified solicitor with 3+ years PQE in a recognised construction practice
• Strong experience in non-contentious construction matters including JCT/NEC contracts
• Excellent drafting skills with strong commercial awareness
• Ability to manage matters and workstreams independently
• Strong relationship-building and client service excellence
• Experience supervising and mentoring junior lawyers
• Collaborative approach with enthusiasm for business development
