Senior/Principal Transport Planner (Public Transport)

In this Senior to Principal Public Transport Planner role, you join Haskoning’s UK Integrated Transport Planning team to lead innovative, sustainable bus and public transport planning. You will work with local authorities and partners to develop efficient networks, policies, and franchising or partnership models. The position emphasizes data-driven decision making, network reviews, and delivering affordable, future-ready transport solutions. Responsibilities

• Conduct network reviews to ensure services fit purpose and deliver best value, aligned with wider objectives
• Develop and refine public transport policies
• Design and manage franchising and partnership models, including Enhanced Partnerships
• Design and implement fares and ticketing schemes using big data modelling
• Support business case development and funding for bus franchising, EVs, and infrastructure upgrades
• Provide specialist support for new public transport networks including demand forecasting, integration plans, and route testing
• Develop tools and advice to prioritise investment in services and bus infrastructure

Key requirements

• Excellent understanding of the UK bus sector and related policy/legislation
• Experience in UK bus operations and network planning; or ticketing/concessionary schemes experience
• Strong data analysis skills and ability to interrogate datasets
• Ability to adopt new ways of working and prioritise workloads
• Experience using GIS mapping software and interpreting analytical outputs
• Proven track record in delivering deliverable, affordable, sustainable bus network solutions
• Excellent report-writing and communication skills
• Experience managing sizeable projects to scope and budget
• Experience developing and maintaining client relationships and securing new work
• Experience mentoring or supporting junior staff
