Business Development Manager

Company: Underdog Recruitment Limited
Apply for the Business Development Manager
Location: London
Job Description:

Are you working in construction sales and doing it well, but ready for a role where you really get an input on the types of projects the business does?

Our client is a high-end residential contractor in London, working across prime and super-prime residential projects where quality and client relationships go hand in hand.

This is a role for someone who already knows how business is won on the contractor side of construction. You’ll be given autonomy to build and run the commercial function, represent the business at the level it deserves, and generate results without someone over your shoulder.

The Role

You’ll take full ownership of the commercial pipeline, the company’s marketing and digital presence, and the relationships that bring the right projects to tender. You’ll report directly to the MD – direct, high-standards, and not interested in micromanaging.

They’ll notice the quality of what you bring in and the way you represent the business. You’ll have the freedom to outsource creative support where it makes sense, but running the function is on you.

Key Responsibilities

  • New business development and lead generation across London’s high-end residential, prime and super-prime market – working both long-game planning-stage opportunities and quicker revenue wins
  • Relationship management with architects, interior designers, developers, project managers and private clients
  • Building and managing a structured pipeline from first contact through to tender submission
  • Owning the company’s marketing and digital presence: LinkedIn, website, case studies and brand materials – briefing specialists where needed, but running it yourself
  • CRM management and self-directed pipeline reporting that lands before anyone has to ask
  • Reconnecting with lapsed contacts and keeping warm relationships moving
  • Finding routes into the market others walk past: accreditations, events, subcontract packages
  • Raising the company profile through awards, industry events and partnerships
  • Market research and competitor analysis to stay ahead of where the work is going

What We’re Looking For

Construction experience on the contractor side is a must. You need to understand how projects move through the different stages, be comfortable with the terminology, and be able to hold your own in client conversations with architects, developers and private clients across the high-end residential market – without the MD alongside you.

  • Proven BD or sales results from the contractor side of construction, in high-end residential or prime/super-prime. Results with numbers, not just titles. Strong candidates will have come from: Business Development Manager or Sales Manager at a main contractor or specialist subcontractor, Estimator or Pre-Construction Manager who has moved into a commercial development role.
  • Existing contacts in London’s high-end residential, prime or super-prime market
  • Able to lead client relationships with confidence and authority, representing the business without needing support in the room
  • Self-organised and self-directed: your pipeline is structured, your reporting is proactive, nobody’s chasing you for updates
  • Comfortable with technology and able to build on systems independently without escalating upwards
  • Confident handling the digital and marketing side: writing a case study, managing LinkedIn, briefing a freelancer
  • Sociable and happy to show up: a lot of this market is built at events and over dinner
  • Follow-through that goes all the way to a result, not just an open door
