Understanding Patient Data (UPD) is an independent initiative, set up in 2016 to make the way health data is collected, used and shared more visible, understandable and trustworthy. We provide clear, accessible information and resources to support public understanding and better conversations about data. At the same time, we work across the health and care system to shape policy and practice using evidence, research and engagement to ensure data is used in ways that are transparent, fair, and aligned with public expectations. By bringing people together and influencing how decisions about data are made, we help make sure that health data works in the best interests of patients, professionals and society.
