Veterinary Surgeon – Independent Small Animal Practice

Loughborough | Full-Time | £40,000–£60,000 DOE

Are you an experienced Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon looking to join an independent practice with an experienced team of vets and a genuinely supportive working environment?

Our client is a growing, independent small animal practice in Loughborough. Having opened in early 2024, the practice has already built a loyal client base and is now looking for a Veterinary Surgeon with ideally three or more years of experience to join the team.

The Role

  • Full-time position, working 38 hours over four weekdays (8:30am–7pm).
  • Clinical freedom, with no financial targets or franchise fees, allowing you to focus on patient care.
  • A varied caseload of consultations and surgery, including advanced soft tissue surgery, specialist cardiac scans and orthopaedic procedures.
  • In-house physiotherapy and acupuncture services, offering opportunities to develop a broader range of clinical skills.
  • The opportunity to work alongside an experienced clinical team, including an Advanced Practitioner in Ophthalmology.
  • On-call vets work from home, attending the practice only when required, with an RVN available on call to assist.
  • The Monday following your weekend on-call duty is given off in lieu.

About the Practice

This independent practice is growing steadily while maintaining an anti-corporate ethos, with clinical freedom, patient care and staff wellbeing at the heart of its approach.

Despite opening its doors in early 2024, the practice has established a loyal client base and created an enjoyable working environment. It offers a wide range of services, with advanced soft tissue surgery, specialist cardiac scans and orthopaedic procedures performed in-house by experienced visiting specialists.

The Ideal Candidate

  • RCVS-registered Veterinary Surgeon with ideally three or more years of experience.
  • Confident with sole-charge responsibilities at weekends and occasionally during the week when required.
  • A compassionate vet committed to high standards of patient care.
  • Someone keen to develop their clinical skills within a supportive, independent practice.

Salary & Benefits

  • Salary of £40,000–£60,000, depending on experience.
  • Five weeks’ holiday, plus bank holidays.
  • Support for ongoing clinical development.
  • RCVS and VDS fees paid.
  • Additional payment for on-call hours.
