The Royal College of General Practitioners is the professional home for UK GPs, serving over 55,000 members and trainees.

We are investing in a 3-year vision to build a digital home for the profession across learning, standards, policy and research, beginning by building a fantastic Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT) team of over 30 people, balancing leadership, delivery management and technical roles, including technical capabilities in Salesforce development, data, UX, IT, AI, and security.

We are currently looking for a Head of IT to provide senior technical leadership across infrastructure, cybersecurity, resilience, AI and automation, technical standards and third-party technology services. Working with colleagues in the DDaT team and beyond, you will:

  • Own technical standards and assurance across cloud, networks, endpoints, identity, integrations and business-critical services.
  • Lead the College’s AI strategy and roadmap, ensuring AI and automation are adopted securely, responsibly and in line with organisational priorities.
  • Oversee cybersecurity controls, incident response, disaster recovery, service continuity and the remediation of technical risks.
  • Define technical and security requirements, challenge supplier designs and hold technology partners accountable for quality, compliance and remediation.
  • Lead and develop the IT team and provide staff with clear guidance on cybersecurity, responsible AI use, IT policies and recognised good practice.

You will bring demonstrable experience of the following:

  • Senior technical IT leadership experience spanning infrastructure, cybersecurity, operations and service resilience.
  • Experience owning or leading an organisational AI strategy, roadmap, governance framework or portfolio of AI-enabled initiatives.
  • Experience technically assuring third-party suppliers, challenging designs and holding vendors accountable for delivery and remediation.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, networks, endpoints, identity and cloud or hybrid infrastructure.
  • Credible technical judgement and the ability to translate complex technology, security and AI topics into practical decisions and guidance.
