Platform Owner

Overview

In this role you will support the delivery, evolution and operation of a strategic enterprise platform. You will work under the Lead Platform Owner to manage day-to-day services, coordinate platform engineering and ensure reliability, security and ease of consumption. You will contribute to the platform roadmap, drive improvements, and promote self-service capabilities to help cross-functional teams deliver more effectively. The role blends hands-on work with coordination, acting as a bridge between users, engineering teams and leadership. This position offers a pathway toward platform leadership and strategic decision‑making.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day platform services and coordinate engineering activities
• Help ensure platform reliability, security, and current state; improve developer experience
• Contribute to the platform roadmap and service improvements
• Drive adoption of self-service capabilities for portfolios, projects and product teams
• Oversee tooling assessments, renewals and lifecycle management with architectural oversight
• Collaborate with engineering, architecture, security and delivery teams
• Act as a bridge between platform users and the platform engineering team
• Progress toward platform leadership and roadmap ownership
• Participate in on-call rota and weekend maintenance
• Flexible hybrid work model and travel to other sites as needed

Key requirements

• Proactive approach to improving platform usability, reliability and adoption
• Understanding of standards, automation, security and self-service
• Strong communication skills to translate technical topics clearly
• Ability to work across teams to gather feedback, prioritise improvements and evolve the platform
• Good understanding of cloud, infrastructure and software concepts
• Experience with technology platforms in delivery or support
• Ability to contribute to platform planning, service improvements and operational processes
• Strong organisational skills to coordinate work across teams
• Oracle DBA experience in enterprise environments
• Proven ownership of large‑scale Oracle database platforms (RAC, Data Guard, RMAN, OEM, ASM) and performance tuning
• Experience managing Oracle databases on-premises and in cloud
• Knowledge of database resilience, DR and security controls
• Experience leading database transformation, upgrades and cloud migration programmes
• Knowledge of PostgreSQL, MS-SQL Server and DB2
• Exposure to platform engineering, self-service development or tooling assessments (helpful)
