Technical Specialist – Mass Spectrometry Imaging

Overview

As Technical Specialist in Mass Spectrometry Imaging, you drive MALDI tissue imaging to map spatial metabolites, lipids and proteins. You will optimise tissue preparation, develop matrix protocols, and enable high-resolution, single-cell analyses. Working with a multidisciplinary team, you’ll deliver robust data and insights for academic and commercial projects. This role offers a chance to shape cutting-edge spatial omics research at King’s Smart Trials Hub. You’ll join a collaborative environment focused on high-quality, reproducible outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Lead MALDI mass spectrometry tissue imaging workflows
• Develop tissue sectioning and matrix application protocols to preserve spatial integrity
• Design and optimize acquisition methods for spatially resolved analyses
• Perform complex data analysis and annotation across diverse sample types
• Contribute to quality assurance and data integrity through documentation and records
• Provide technical advice, training or support on MALDI imaging techniques

Key requirements

• PhD or equivalent experience in chemistry, life sciences, or relevant area
• Hands-on experience with MALDI MS imaging equipment, method development, and sample prep
• Experience with data acquisition and analysis of spatially resolved metabolites and lipids using MALDI
• Excellent written and verbal communication, able to convey technical concepts to varied audiences
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines
• Experience with QA/QC standards in a laboratory/research setting
• Experience in providing technical training or support on MALDI imaging techniques
