Salary: £60,000–£70,000 plus benefits

Hours: 35 hours per week

Our client, an international charity helping children access safe surgery, is seeking a Head of Engineering to lead the delivery of operating theatres and healthcare infrastructure in challenging environments worldwide.

Reporting to the Director of Global Operations, you will combine engineering leadership with hands‑on delivery, overseeing biomedical, electrical and infrastructure systems that enable surgical teams to work safely and reliably.

This role could particularly suit an ex‑military engineering leader with a strong electrical background and experience solving practical problems in demanding environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the engineering team, overseeing the installation, commissioning and maintenance of medical equipment globally.
  • Deliver reliable power and ventilation solutions, including solar, backup power and isolated power systems.
  • Develop and deploy oxygen generation, storage and delivery systems.
  • Support the hands‑on deployment of modular and containerised healthcare facilities, coordinating structural, mechanical and electrical systems through to technical sign‑off.
  • Work with local teams and partners to ensure systems are resilient, sustainable and maintainable locally.

What You’ll Need

  • A strong engineering background with proven experience leading and managing technical teams.
  • Strong electrical systems experience, particularly power generation or distribution.
  • Hands‑on experience installing, commissioning or troubleshooting technical systems.
  • The ability to develop practical solutions with limited resources, take ownership of problems and work independently.
  • A willingness to work internationally, including in low‑resource and high‑risk settings, and a commitment to improving access to children’s surgery.
