Senior Software Engineer

Overview

As an AML Engineer in Wise’s AML Risk team, you will design and scale detection controls to identify money laundering and terrorist financing risks. You will own large projects and drive technical roadmaps, partnering with product, data science, and analysts. Your work improves detection accuracy, reliability, and security while reducing unnecessary friction for legitimate customers. This role offers the chance to shape the approach to financial crime detection at scale and contribute to Wise’s mission of linking people and money globally.

Responsibilities

• Design and build AML detection controls that can evolve and scale
• Own large projects, their technical roadmaps, and their delivery
• Shape product decisions and explain the customer problem and expected impact
• Improve reliability, security, and technical quality
• Mentor engineers and share knowledge across the team

Key requirements

• 5+ years of experience building backend systems, distributed systems, or data-intensive systems
• Expert in your technical discipline
• Understanding of your team’s technical and business domain
• Ability to design systems with long-term change and scale in mind
• Mentor and coach other engineers
• Experience with AML or financial crime is preferred but not required
• Experience running machine learning or large language models in production is preferred but not required
