Underwriting Assurance Team Lead

Overview

In this role, you lead the delivery of underwriting regulatory returns, ensuring timely, accurate reporting with clear evidence. You guide Analysts and Interns, drive quality delivery, and implement practical control improvements across underwriting activity. You’ll work with cross-functional partners to resolve inputs and escalate issues, while developing the team through coaching and knowledge sharing. The role offers visibility across the business and a chance to shape controls, reporting quality, and ways of working. You will contribute to a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement at AXIS.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and oversee underwriting regulatory returns (ATIA, GAREAT, NNPP and other governance returns)
• Collaborate with stakeholders across functions (Underwriting, Operations, Finance, Compliance, Tax, Data Analytics) to gather inputs and resolve issues
• Maintain procedures, checklists and evidence for reporting activities
• Identify data quality issues, ownership gaps, dependencies, and reporting risks
• Provide day-to-day leadership, allocate workload, review work for accuracy and confidence
• Support onboarding, coaching, mentoring, and knowledge sharing within the team
• Manage underwriting file reviews, plan quality checks, report results and track actions
• Identify themes and opportunities to strengthen controls or processes
• Recommend and embed process improvements, automation, and new ways of working
• Support feedback to Underwriters and escalate material or repeated issues

Key requirements

• Experience in insurance, underwriting operations, regulatory reporting, governance, controls, compliance or assurance
• Experience leading, coaching, mentoring or supervising colleagues
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
• Good communication and stakeholder management skills
• Ability to manage competing priorities and escalate issues appropriately
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
• Experience with data handling and reporting outputs
