Commercial Mid Market Fleet Underwriter

Overview

As a Fleet Underwriter at AXA in Manchester, you will underwrite mid-market fleet business with a focus on profitability and adherence to underwriting standards. You will nurture broker relationships, act as a trading expert, and support branch performance while collaborating with the Underwriting Technical Centre. The role offers exposure to large commercial risks and cross-functional engagement with brokers and clients. This is an opportunity to influence trading results and contribute to AXA Commercial’s growth and risk management.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite mid-market fleet business profitably and consistently according to underwriting practices and appetite
• Develop and maintain broker relationships through visits and large-case liaison to maximize results and generate new business
• Establish yourself as a trading expert with a panel of intermediaries and engage with the Underwriting Technical Centre
• Attend broker and client meetings to showcase AXA strengths and win new opportunities
• Support loss ratio control by applying branch underwriting controls and monitoring account performance
• Identify poorly performing accounts, investigate retention issues, and collaborate with senior underwriters to improve retention
• Help colleagues build strong intermediary relationships to ensure high-quality service delivery

Key requirements

• Robust trading capability with commercial awareness and strong broker relationship-building
• Experience in Fleet underwriting
• Decisive and pragmatic with good numerical reasoning
• Analytical skills with account monitoring and action planning
• Technical underwriting expertise in a composite insurance environment
• Knowledge of legislative and regulatory requirements
• Excellent communication, risk assessment, and risk management abilities
• CII / Dip CII qualifications desirable
• UK work eligibility and authorisation precondition
• IDD role with required background screening every 4 years
