Consultant Plastic Surgeon (Hands)

Overview

In this role, you will oversee adult hand surgery referrals and provide specialist care from the Canniesburn Plastic Surgery Unit at Glasgow Royal Infirmary. You will conduct hand clinics, perform elective hand procedures, and contribute to long-term follow-up of hand trauma cases. The role requires participation in the on-call rota and coordination with fellow hand surgeons to cover trauma and burns. You will work within a large, teaching-focused unit delivering a broad spectrum of plastic surgery services.

Responsibilities

• Manage new referrals for elective Adult Hand Surgery
• Provide advice on complex hand trauma with colleagues when needed
• Undertake adult hand clinics and elective care
• Provide long-term follow-up for adult hand trauma patients
• Participate in on-call rota and manage trauma and burns as required
• Collaborate with the Canniesburn Unit colleagues and support cross-site activities
• Engage in teaching activities and clinical governance within the unit

Key requirements

• GMC registration and valid licence to practise
• Higher specialist training leading to CCT or eligibility for specialist registration (CESR) or within 6 months of confirmed entry from interview (UK trained)
• Equivalent training for non-UK applicants
• Experience in adult hand surgery and trauma management
• Competence in management of trauma and burns on the on-call rota
