Specialty Doctor in Ophthalmology

Position

Speciality Doctor (12‑month fixed term) in Ophthalmology, University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire NHS Trust.

Key Responsibilities

• Outpatient activity – general clinics, specialist clinics and cataract clinics.
• EERS/Emergency Duties – referral triage, emergency and urgent diagnosis and treatment, liaison with senior staff regarding admissions or general anaesthesia, assistance with emergency surgery and cover as per duty rota. May require attending other hospitals for emergency cases.
• Theatre – support and independent theatre sessions as per ability.
• Ward Rounds – attend ward rounds, exam pre‑ and post‑operative patients, cover leave and provide continuity of care.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years comprehensive ophthalmology experience, including at least 2 years of U.K. ophthalmology experience.

Job plan of 10 Professional Activities (PAs). On‑call duties (1:8‑1:9). Significant clinical, laser and surgical exposure with opportunities to gain CESR and subspecialty experience. Research, teaching and audit are actively encouraged and supported; several NIHR portfolio studies are in progress.
